    A short visit to America.

    Abe leaves Poland to visit America. Sonia and their two young children remain in Warsaw. The family expects the separation to last only weeks.

  2. September 1939–1945An ocean apart

    War closes the way home.

    Germany’s invasion of Poland separates the family. Sonia endures the Warsaw ghetto and Nazi concentration camps; her children are murdered. In America, Abe searches for news of his family.

  3. 1946Reunited in America

    A life to rebuild together.

    After a search notice helps reconnect them, Sonia reaches America. Their reunion begins the long work of building a home and raising a family while carrying the memory of those they lost.
